Cunha è ottima in mare aperto.

Alex Pussieldi "We're no more an only-football country. Italians? Great coaches"

(ENGLISH VERSION) The Brazilian swimming coach and tv commentator tells Swimbiz.it about the impact of Rio Olympics on Brazilian sport and aquatic friendship with Italy.

Brazil’s always on first pages in these days, but not because of Olympic Games. Sunday, President Dilma Rousseff will face a voting for impeachment “We are all very affected by this political crisis Alex Pussieldi, Brazilian swimming coach and commentator for SporTv and globoesporte.com, tells Swimbiz.it – I hope we can find the proper results and keep working to develop a better country”. Sport itself proved able to change. Three years ago, Thiago Pereira asked for cultural sport in Brazilian sport, that expected 10 medals from swmming at Rio Olympics, but was still too football-focused “I expect between 2-5 medals, in swimming and between 1-3 in open water in Rio. And it’s true that we are a football country, like Italy - Pussieldi explains – but there was a change of scenario with Olympic Games, swimming and Olympic sports have gained popularity and space on media”. Also thanks to Cesar Cielo, not just our only swimming Olympic champion, but a reference of our sport. He had a terrible year in 2015, something was necessary to change, he came back Scott Goodrich, the coach who helped him to win 2013 World Aquatics Championships. I believe on him, he’s got a chance and I think he will do”. But how will Brazilian swimming change after Rio Olympics? “We will have a financial setback, but we will make progress on long term. I’m sure the Olympic movement will receive some improvements”

Cielo could also lose his 100 freestyle world record “I and the whole world was in shock with McEvoy performances, definitely he is on the way for the record”. Brazil and Italy will face each other in short distances too “both our 4x100 freestyle male relays, together with Usa and Russia, can fight for two medals. France can win gold – however – it’s the favorite, but not unbeatable. There are many connections between Italy and Brazil. Federica Pellegrini told Globoesporte.com that Filippo Magnini and Cesar Cielo are good friends. Cielo has Italian origins, just like Bruno Fratus, and Italo-Brazilian Stefano Rubaudo  is the Italian open water national Team Manager “I have many friends too, among great Italian coaches like Stefano Morini and Claudio Rossetto and it was the same with Alberto Castagnetti. I also had the pleasure and honor to have Gianluca Alberani as assistant coach, at Davie Nadadores. A very prominent young swimming coach, who now directs his own program in Florida, Azura Aquatics”. We’ll maybe see in the future an official collaboration between Fin and Cbda. The two open water national teams set a good example, with common training between Ana Marcela Cunha and Italian team. Who will win Olympic 10 km marathon? Ana Marcela is really good in sea. Poliana Okimoto is good too, and will be fighting for medals. However, according to me Rachele Bruni is the most improved swimmer this past year and definitely is a huge name for a medal”.
